Door Access Control

Overview

One deadbolt lock with matching brass key was ultimate standard of access control earlier, but with the evolution of technology the modern security techniques has also been improved lot. Now with the control of the passers through the doors, it is also necessary to monitor and manage access. This is where the door access control comes into play. Door access control system for a building is being designed or standardized based on the size and the required levels of security for the organization.

It is basically a digital security system that ensures authorized entry to any facility. Here the keys are basically passed through the computer-based access control systems to grant quick, convenient access to authorized persons.

Now a day’s people uses access cards or ID badges to enter to restricted areas such as workstations, file rooms housing sensitive data, defense facility, law enforcement building etc.

These are being used to safeguard against trespassing, vandalism, and other criminal activity.

It simplifies the entry where it’s no longer needed to have to carry keys instead authorized   people can issued users convenient forms of entry like card keys, key fobs, mobile app barcodes, and more to unlock it.

Working principle:

The door access control has a control panel that receives the encrypted tag number from the reader. After that it decodes the number and compares the ID number to its database available onto the system. If the both numbers match, the system grants access to the user at that time.

For this types of locks users can use digital methods such as key fobs or mobile apps to unlock the door. The doors can be monitored remotely if the door is digitally integrate with the access control system with back-end software and. If someone is using cloud-based access control system for the doors then the process is quite easy.

Different types:

Single-door systems:

These types are cost-efficient, yet not very expandable. Meaning one cannot integrate more doors in one centralized control system once it uses the single door system.

Multi-door systems

This type enables one to integrate multiple doors under one control system and software all at once, in a way that one can streamline the monitoring.

Different types of technologies used in the Door Access Control:

Keypads:

In this type of locking technology the user types a password in a keypad placed on the front of the door. And the access control system match it with the one saved in the database and grants access to the right input.

Proximity readers:

These are one of the most popular kinds of locking technology for door access control systems. Here the user required presenting a pre-programmed card, key fob, or mobile app bar code in front of the reader to unlocks the door.

Biometric readers:

In this case the user requires scanning their finger print, palm print, face, etc. to gain access. This is one of the most secure forms of door access control.

Intercom systems:

It usually uses a combination of keywords and audio files for locking or unlocking the system. Here the user needs to enter a pass code and call the administrator to access entry.

Different types of Lock Options:

  1. Stand-alone locks
  2. Magnetic locks
  3. Electric strike locks
  4. Electric deadbolts
  5. Exit options locks
  6. Push buttons locks
  7. Push bars locks
  8. Motion sensors locks

  11. IP/Network-Attached locks
  12. ODBC-compliant software locks
  13. Bio metric Access Control System locks
  14. Finger Print Access locks
